Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) is a country adorned with many gold pagodas, bordered by the Andaman Sea to the south and the Gulf of Bengal to the south-west.
Watered through the Irrawaddy delta in the middle. The country is very mountainous with the chain of Arakan and its high plateaus (more than 5000m altitude) in the north.
The country is not yet industrialized, and the population is mainly rural, producing an abundant supply of rice and opium.
Aide et Action's involvement in Myanmar began in 2005. The poor quality in teaching remains a major challenge for a country with more than 135 ethnic minority groups. Indeed, the current educational system and school curricula are imposed by the government in the national language of the country (Burmese) and thus excludes the children of other ethnic minorities. In Myanmar, Aide et Action's programme focuses on both inclusive education and the quality of education, with a focus on developing resource centers in rural areas.
