In China, rapid development pushes families from rural areas into urban areas where they can find better paying jobs. However once there, most suffer from administrative and societal discrimination. As a result, the children of these migrants are excluded from the public education system. They are placed in the middle of a cultural conflict which prevents them from learning effectively. The relationship between parents and children may in this case become very strained, which will subsequently impact their earlier socialization and obstacle their
integration into the city.

New families are still migrating to cities, and are always in transit. A preliminary study found that there were about 20 million migrant children in China. This alarming high number requires the development of new, adaptive and efficient action models/tools. Accordingly, additional funds are required to keep developing the project. Project duration: 1 year (2008)
