Phase 1: Emergency response (complete):
In the days following the earthquake, the whole country had mobilized for rescue and relief work, and many untrained volunteers had reached the province from all parts of China with the will to help. As fear and confusion took hold of the affected areas, Aide et Action provided essential orientation and educational activities:
- General publication education and orientation: an informational brochure targeted to general public after the earthquake, printed 10,000 volumes, and distributed in partnership with the Chengdu Red Cross and Youth Community. The brochure points to 4 steps people can take after the earthquake, with an introduction on the expert information about this earthquake, directions on how to participate to the relief efforts, and useful contacts for public.
- Volunteer mini-training and organization: an information kit has also been developed, targeted to volunteers who serve the quake victims. The main points are about psychological assistance and counseling victims coping with shock and stress after a traumatizing event, such as the loss of a loved one, of property, etc. This information allow for a better structuring of volunteers' actions, in order to ensure that the affected populations are adequately supported.
